Not For Daniel's Wisdom - Daniel 2:30

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he went to Arioch and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will show unto the king the interpretation. Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation. The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Are you able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof? Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king has demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, show unto the king. But there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets, and makes known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, are these. As for you, O king, your thoughts came into your mind upon your bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that reveals secrets makes known to you what shall come to pass”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse thirty, Daniel shared how he told King Nebuchadnezzar, “this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living” where we read,

But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that you might know the thoughts of your heart.

The verse reads, “But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, ...Daniel began with the words, “but as for me” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover regarding and considering me, Daniel”, “this secret” which means “the hidden mystery dreamed by Nebuchadnezzar”“is not revealed to me” or “is not in any way or manner unveiled, uncovered and disclosed to me, Daniel” “for any wisdom” which means “on behalf of a cognitive content or sapience” “that I have more than any living” or “that I, Daniel, hold, own or possess to a greater degree compared to anyone else who is alive”. Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar that his “dream” or hidden mystery was not given to him because he had a greater amount of sapience than anyone else who was alive.

The verse continues, “... but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that you might know the thoughts of your heart.” Daniel added the words, “but for their sakes” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover on behalf of the people's cause and reason” “that shall make known the interpretation” or “who will inform, reveal, uncover and unveil the rendering and meaning” “to the king” which means “to the royal ruler and leader”, “and that you might know the thoughts” or “and so you, King Nebuchadnezzar, may be taught, informed and aware of the mental conception and cogitation” “of your heart” which means “pertaining to your, mind and soul”. Daniel said the hidden mystery was to be exposed because of the cause of the ones who were to inform the king so he would understand what was in his mind and soul.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Daniel would not give himself credit for having King Nebuchadnezzar's “dream” revealed to him. God made the dream known for the cause of those who were informing the king of the meaning of the mental imagery, and so King Nebuchadnezzar would be informed concerning the meaning of his “vision”. God was informing King Nebuchadnezzar about the future, and we shall see how Daniel speaks about these things later on. For now let us consider that all of this was concerning God's plan to send His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and to be raised from the dead after three days. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and keep us in fellowship with Him for all eternity by the power of His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth even as He did for Daniel. (See John 16:13)

Next time Daniel shares how he told King Nebuchadnezzar, “you, O king, saw, and behold a great image”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
