Till a Stone Cut Out Without Hands - Daniel 2:34

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he spoke to King Nebuchadnezzar and said, “You, O king, saw, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and the form thereof was terrible. This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, his legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay”, and in Daniel chapter two and verse thirty-four of his book, Daniel shared how he told King Nebuchadnezzar, “you saw till that a stone was cut out without hands” where we read,

You saw till that a stone was cut out without hands,

which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.

The verse reads, “You saw till that a stone was cut out without hands, ... Daniel began with the words, “you saw” or “you, King Nebuchadnezzar, observed, noticed and discerned the idolatrous figure” “till a stone was cut out” which means “until a rock was broken off, extracted and removed” “without hands” or “without the use of physical hands”. Daniel told King Nebuchadnezzar that he observed the idolatrous figure standing before him until such time that a rock was extracted without using physical hands.

The verse continues, “... which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces.Daniel added the words, “which smote the image” which means “that struck and impaled to pieces the idolatrous figure”“upon his feet” or “on his, the idolatrous figure's, physical feet” “that were of iron” which means “that were made with iron metal” “and clay” which means “and potsherd or clods”, “and broke them to pieces” or “shattered them, the idolatrous figure's, physical feet into crumbles and tiny particles”. Daniel said the “stone” struck the idolatrous figure's physical feet which were fashioned from iron metal and potsherd and shattered them into small particles.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel more about the vision or dream that was given to King Nebuchadnezzar. He told Nebuchadnezzar how he watched the idolatrous figure until such time that a rock was extracted without physical hands which struck it's physical “feet” of the image which were fashioned with iron metal and potsherd or clods and shattered them into particles. At this point we may be wondering what all these things meant, but let us be assured that this “dream” was a revelation of God's plan to bring salvation to everyone. God would send His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when He raised Him from the dead after three days, He gave us the opportunity to put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, and when we do, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and lead us by His Holy Spirit to know He is omniscient and is aware of the past, present and future of mankind.

Next time Daniel shares how he told King Nebuchadnezzar, “the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
