As
Paul the apostle continued to share the different “spiritual
gifts”
which are given to the church by the Holy Spirit, he mentioned “the
word of wisdom”
and “the word of knowledge”
which are meant to “profit” the
church members. In
chapter twelve and verse nine of First Corinthians, Paul adds to the
list of “spiritual gifts”
as he shared with the church members in Corinth about, “faith”
and “the
gifts of healing”, where
we read:
To
another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by
the same Spirit;
The
verse begins, “To another faith by
the same Spirit;”.
Paul began
with the words, “to another”
which means “to an other person” “faith”
which means “belief with the predominate idea of trust or
confidence whether in God or in Christ, springing from faith in the
same” “by the same” which
means “the identical or selfsame”
“Spirit”
which refers to “through the third person of the triune God which
is the Holy Spirit who is coequal and coeternal with the Father and
the Son”.
The
verse continues, “to
another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;”
Paul added
the words, “to another” which
means “to an other person” “the
gifts” or
“spiritual endowments with miraculous faculty” “of
healing”
which refers to “remedy or medicine” “by
the same”
or “identical and selfsame” “Spirit”
which refers to “through the third person of the triune God which
is the Holy Spirit who is coequal and coeternal with the Father and
the Son”.
When
we meditate upon these words from Paul, we discover two more
“spiritual gifts” provided by the Holy Spirit to the church.
The exercising of abundant “faith” and trust when
occasions arise, and the “spiritual endowments for healing” when
people within the church are sick or suffer infirmity. Jesus Christ,
through the Holy Spirit, gave these “gifts” to the church to
“build it up” and help it accomplish it's mission to share Him
with the world. Let us rejoice in these “spiritual gifts”
the Lord has provided and be open to allow Him to “distribute”
them as He wills.
Next
time Paul shares with the church members concerning, “the
working of miracles, prophesy, discerning of spirits, divers kinds of
tongues” and
“interpretation
of tongues”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
