Paul
the apostle continued his instruction of “order” and “authority”
as he wrote to the Corinthian church members how, “the
man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man”,
and in
chapter eleven and verse nine of First Corinthians, Paul shared with
the Corinthian church members how , “the
woman” was
“created” “for the man”,
where we read:
Neither
was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
The verse begins,
“Neither
was the man created for the woman;”.
Paul began
with the word, “neither”
which means “for also was not and nor” “was
the man” or
“the male human being” “created”
which means “formed or shaped” “for
the woman”
or “through and by means of the female human being”. Paul
continued to share from the standpoint of how the “man”
was
initially “formed” by God and lived alone at first without “the
woman”.
The
verse goes on to say, “but
the woman for the man.” Paul
continues with the word, “but”
which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be
written takes precedence over what was just stated “the
woman” which
refers to “the female human being” “for
the man”
or “through and by means of, and on behalf of the male human
being”. Since “the man”
was initially “created”
alone, God “created”
the “woman”
for his benefit, companionship and enjoyment with one another. (See
Genesis 2:22-23)
When
we consider these words from Paul, we understand how “the man”
was “created” by God first in order, but because he was
“alone”, God “created” “the woman” from him. This
was God's order of things, and because there was to be “order of
authority” within Jesus' church in Corinth, Paul used this
reference to demonstrate the pattern for it. Both the “man”
and the “woman” were important to God, and all human
beings born since the first two have need of both the “man”
and the “woman” for conception. Jesus desires to be
“Savior and Lord” to every person, and whether they are “male”
or “female” they are all candidates for His salvation.
Next
time Paul shares with the church members, “for
this cause ought the woman to have power on her head”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
