Paul
the apostle exhorted the church members in Corinth, “when
you come together to eat, tarry one for another”,
and in chapter eleven and verse
thirty-four of First Corinthians, Paul tells the Corinthian church
members, “if any man hunger, let
him eat at home”,
where we read:
And if
any man hunger, let him eat at home; that you come not together unto
condemnation.
And
the rest will I set in order when I come.
The
verse begins, “And
if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that you come not together
unto condemnation.”. Paul
began with the words, “and if any
man” which
refers to “and whether whoever or whosoever” “hunger”
or “suffers
want, is needy, craves ardently and seeks with eager desire”, “let
him eat”
which means “permit that man to consume an devour” “at
home” or
“in his inhabited house or dwelling place”; “that
you come not together”
or “so when the church members they do not so” “unto
condemnation” or
“toward judgment, sentence of a judge, penal judgment and
sentence”. The church members who were “hungry” among the
Corinthians were exhorted by Paul to “eat
at home”
so they would avoid being “condemned”
when they came together.
The
verse continues, “And
the rest will I set in order when I come.”
Paul added
the words, “and the rest” which
means “the remainder of the things under consideration” “will
I set in order”
which means “shall Paul arrange, appoint, ordain and prescribe”
“when I come”
or “at the time Paul makes his appearance before the church
members”. Paul had more things to discuss with the Corinthian
church members assembling, and he would share with them when he came
to them again.
When
we meditate upon these words from Paul, we understand his instruction
for the church members to “eat at home” rather than be
“condemned” for not “considering” one another. Also,
there must have been much more that he desired to share with the
church members because he mentioned that he would “set” those
things “in order” when he came personally to them. Jesus
Christ desires for His church to be unified and caring for one
another, and whether it concerns “eating and drinking” together,
“the Lord's supper” or any other purpose for assembling.
Next
time we begin a new chapter as Paul shares about, “spiritual
gifts”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
