As
Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth about the
“diversities of gifts,
administrations and operations”
of God, he added it was “the “same
Spirit, Lord and God” that
was involved in distributing them. In
chapter twelve and verse eight of First Corinthians, Paul began to
tell what some of the “spiritual gifts”
were as he shared about, “the
word of wisdom” and
“the word of knowledge”,
where we read:
For to
one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;
to
another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
The
verse begins, “For
to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;”.
Paul began
with the word, “for”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “one is given”
which means “is bestowed, granted, supplied, furnished and
delivered” “by the Spirit” which
refers to “through the third person of the triune God which is the
Holy Spirit who is coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Son”
“the word”
or “the act of speaking, discourse, doctrine or teaching” “of
wisdom”
which means “the wisdom of God as evinced in forming and executing
counsels in the formation and government of the world and the
scriptures”. One of the “spiritual
gifts”
given to the church, according to Paul, is the ability to “formulate
and execute Godly counsel”
The
verse goes on to say, “to
another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;”
Paul
continued with the words, “to
another” which
means “to an other person” “the
word” or
“the act of speaking, discourse, doctrine or teaching” “of
knowledge”
which refers to “general intelligence and understanding” “by
the same”
“identical and selfsame” “Spirit”
which refers to “through the third person of the triune God which
is the Holy Spirit who is coequal and coeternal with the Father and
the Son”. Another person in the church “is
given” the
“spiritual gift”
of the “word of knowledge”
by God's Spirit.
When
we consider these words from Paul, he identifies two of the
“spiritual gifts” which are given to people within the
church. Let us notice how they are “given” by the Holy
Spirit, which means He possesses them, and they are extended to
certain individuals by Him. Paul the apostle knew that Jesus Christ's
church needed the “spiritual gifts of wisdom and knowledge”
so they would not only “know” what to do in certain
circumstances, but also how to “do them”. The Holy Spirit is
willing to extend to the church all that is necessary in “wisdom
and knowledge”, and by this the world shall know about Jesus
Christ through His church.
Next
time Paul shares with the church members concerning, “faith”
and
“the gifts of healing”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
