Paul
the apostle told the church members in Corinth, “the
body is not one member, but many”,
and in chapter twelve and verse fifteen of
First Corinthians, Paul questioned the church members “if
the foot shall say, because I am not of the hand,”
... “is it
not of the body?”,
where we read:
If the
foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is
it therefore not of the body?
The
verse begins, “If
the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body;
...”. Paul
began with the words, “if”
which means “whether” “the foot”
which refers to “the actual foot on a body” “shall
say” which
means “utters, declares and proclaims”,
“Because”
or “since and on account of” “I
am not”
which means “the foot is not a part of” “the
hand”
which refers to “the hand on a body”, “I
am not” or
“the hand is not” “of the body”
which refers to “the living corpse or carcass”. Paul used the
example of the “foot” portion of the “body” proclaiming that
it was not of the “hand” portion of the “body”.
The
verse continues, “is
it therefore not of the body?” Paul
added the words, “is it not” which
means “therefore not”
or “” “of the body”
which refers to “”. Paul questioned whether this statement made
it true that the “foot”
was not a part of “the overall body”?
When
we meditate upon these words from Paul, we note how the obvious
answer to his question is “no”. The “foot” and the
“hand” are part of the overall “body” even
though they function in different ways. Jesus Christ's church is made
up of various parts and though the functions are different, they are
all part of His “church body”. Paul desired for the
Corinthian church members to know how valuable each part of the body
is, and when we fulfill our roles, the world will see how beautiful
is the church of Jesus.
Next
time Paul shares with the church members concerning, “the
eye” being
“of the body”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
