Paul
the apostle told the church members in Corinth “whatever
is sold in the shambles, that eat”,
and they were not to “ask questions” “for
their conscience sake”.
In chapter ten and verse twenty-four of
First Corinthians, Paul told the Corinthian church members “the
earth is the Lord's” where
we read:
The verse begins, “For
the earth is
the Lord's,...”. Paul
began with the word, “For”
which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and
therefore” “the earth” or
“the inhabited abode of men and animals” “is
the Lord's”
which refers to “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which
he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the
Messiah”. Paul declared that the entire “world” is God's.
The
verse goes on to say, “...and
the fullness thereof.” Paul
continued with the words, “and the
fullness” “the
complete filling and abundance” “thereof”
or “the same and itself”. God not only possesses the “earth”
itself, but He also owns everything that is within it. God also
“possesses” all that is in the world as well.
When
we think through these words from Paul, we recognize how he referred
to Psalm chapter twenty-four and verse one to show the church members
in Corinth how everything they encountered physically is “owned”
by the Lord. Everything that would be offered for sacrifice to
“idols” and the materials by which the “idols” were made was
God's as well. God owns it all, and all the world and it's contents
points to having a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ His
Son. May all who read these words look around, recognize who owns it
all and submit their lives to Jesus Christ God's Son.
Next
time Paul instructs the Corinthians, “if
any of them that believe not bid you to a feast” don't
ask “questions for
conscience sake”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
