After
the worship scene in heaven where “the
Lamb”
of God received the “scroll” in God's right hand, the beginning
of the tribulation to come upon the earth began and John the apostle
saw the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and the sixth seal
opened, and he wrote, “there
was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of
hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto
the earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is
shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it
is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of
their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the
rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every
bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the
rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on
us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and
from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come;
and who shall be able to stand? And after these things I saw four
angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four
winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor
on the sea, nor on any tree”,
and in chapter seven and verse two of Revelation John shared how John
he “saw
another angel ascending from the east, … and he cried” where
we read:
And
I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the
living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to
whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,
The
verse reads, “And
I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the
living God:” John
began with the words, “and I
saw”
which means “and John perceived, noticed, discerned, discovered and
beheld” “another angel”
which
means “one other messenger, envoy or one who is sent” “ascending”
or
“going, rising, mounting and springing up” “from
the east”
which refers to “in separating and departing the direction of the
sun's rising”, “having the
seal”
or “holding, owning and possessing the signet ring or seal by which
anything is confirmed, proved and authenticated” “of
the living God”
which refers to “the active, blessed, fresh, strong, powerful,
efficacious and full of vigor Godhead bodily and trinity which is
comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”.
In addition to the “four
angels holding the four quarters of the earth”,
John saw yet another “angel”
who was in possession of God's “signet seal” of authority.
The
verse goes on to say, “and
he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given
to hurt the earth and the sea, ...” John
continued with the words, “and
he cried”
which means “and the angel shrieked, screamed, exclaimed and
intreated” “with
a loud voice”
or “with a great, abundant and mighty tone or sound of uttered
words or language” “to
the four angels”
which refers to “toward the four previously mentioned angels or
messengers”, “to
whom it was given”
which means “the the four angels was granted, bestowed, extended,
furnished and caused” “to
hurt” or
“to damage, injure, offend and harm” “the
earth”
which means “the arable land, country, territory and region”
“and the sea”
which refers to “the large bodies of water”. John heard this
angel begin to give direction to the
“four angels”
who were holding the “winds”
from the “four
quarters”
of the earth.
When
we think through John's words in this verse, we discover this marvel
in the spiritual world. “Four angels” were holding back
the “winds” from the “four quarters of the earth”,
and an additional “angel” who holds the authority from
God begins to give instruction to them in a “loud voice”.
John must have been amazed at such a great sight, and as he begins to
share more about the destruction that will come upon the earth, we
will see there are limits to God's destruction upon the things of the
earth. God is a compassionate and gracious, and He desires to save
people from these things through belief and trust in His Son Jesus.
Those who are wise will realize there is a spiritual world where
“angels” work and are instructed according to His
authority and will. Let all who consider these things yield their
lives to Him today.
Next
time
we John hears the angel say, “Hurt
not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
