John
the apostle
saw
the “Lamb”
of
God take the “scroll” which was in God's right hand, and when he
did,
“the four beasts and four and
twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them
harps, and golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of
saints, and they sung a new song, saying, You are worthy to take the
book, and to open the seals thereof: for you were slain, and have
redeemed us to God by your blood out of every kindred, and tongue,
and people, and nation; And have made us unto our God kings and
priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”
John added, “And
I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne
and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten
thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands”,
and in chapter five and verse twelve of Revelation John shared how
they declared, “worthy
is the Lamb that was slain”
where
we read:
Saying
with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive
power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory,
and blessing.
The
verse reads, “Saying
with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive
power,”
John
began with the word, “saying”
which means “speaking, affirming, maintaining and uttering” “with
a loud voice” which
means “with a great, large and abundant sound, tone and tongue”,
“Worthy”
or
“of great value, befitting, congruous and suitable” “is
the Lamb”
which means “a little sheep or lamb” “that
was slain”
or “who was slaughtered, butchered, put to death by violence and
mortally wounded” “to
receive”
which means “to lay hold of, take up, carry, claim and procure”
“power”
which means “strength, ability and influence” . John heard the
hosts of heaven declaring the “worthiness”
of
the “Lamb”
which was Jesus to “claim and procure” “strength, ability and
influence”.
The
verse goes on to say, “and
riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and
blessing.”
John
added the words, “and
riches”
which means “wealth, abundance of external possessions, fullness,
and plenitude”, “and
wisdom”
which refers to “the use of knowledge in very diverse matters”
“and
strength”
or “ability, force and might” “and
honor” which
means “deference, reverence and value”; “and
glory”
or “splendor, brightness, magnificence, preeminence and majesty”,
“and
blessing” which
refers to “praise, laudation and benefit”. The “heavenly hosts”
continued to declare the “riches,
wisdom, strength, honor, glory and blessing”
deserved by God's “Lamb”
Jesus.
When
we think through John's words in this verse, we see all of heaven
joining together to make the declaration of the “worthiness”
of Jesus to receive every glorious attribute. “Power, riches,
wisdom, strength, honor,
glory and blessing” were due to Jesus who by His
sacrificial death on the cross not only empowered Him to rightly
receive the “title deed” to the earth, but also paid the price
for the sin of the world. Jesus deserves all the praise and honor for
procuring the salvation of man, and all of heaven recognized and
declared, “Worthy is the Lamb”.
