As
John the apostle continued to share about the “tribulation” that
was to come upon the earth, he shared concerning the first six seals
Jesus removed from the “scroll” in God's right hand. He began to
write about what happened when Jesus,
“had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the
space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before
God; and to them were given seven trumpets … And the seven angels
which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first,
second, third, fourth and fifth angels” blew
their trumpets, and great judgment fell upon the earth. John
continued, “And
the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of
the golden altar which is before God,
Saying
to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which
are bound in the great river Euphrates, and the four angels were
loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and
a year, for to slay the third part of men. And the number of the army
of the horsemen were
two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. And
thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them,
having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the
heads of the horses were
as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke
and brimstone. By these three was the third part of men killed, by
the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of
their mouths, for their power is in their mouth, and in their tails:
for their tails were
like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. And
the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet
repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not
worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone,
and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither
repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their
fornication, nor of their thefts.”
In chapter ten and verse one of Revelation John shared how he “saw
another mighty angel” where
we read:
And
I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a
cloud: and a rainbow was
upon his head, and his face was
as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:
The
verse reads, “And
I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a
cloud: ”
John
began with the words “and
I saw”
which means “and John noticed, perceived, discerned and discovered”
“another
mighty angel”
or “an other strong, forcible and firm messenger, envoy or one
sent” “come
down” which
means “who descended from a higher place to a lower” “from
heaven”
or “away and separate from the region above the sidereal heavens
where is the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect
where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “clothed”
or
“arrayed and surrounded with a garment” “with
a cloud”
which means “cloudiness or a cloudy fog”. John noticed another
“mighty
angel”
descending out of heaven who was arrayed in a “cloudy”
attire.
The
verse goes on to say, “and
a rainbow was
upon his head, and his face was
as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:” John
added the words, “and
a rainbow”
which means “like a rainbow in the sky” “was
upon”
or “rested on”, “his
head”
which means “the angel's forepart of his body”, “and
his face”
or “the angel's countenance and front of his head” “was
as it were”
which means “was like or similar to” “the
sun”
which refers to “to solar unit of the day”, “and
his feet”
or “the angel's feet upon which one walks” “as
pillars”
which refers to “like unto and similar to columns for support”
“of fire”
which means “of fiery flame like lightning”. The “mighty
angel”
John saw had a “rainbow”
on his head,
a face
that was shining like the sun and
feet
that were like columns of fire.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, can only imagine how
daunting this “mighty angel” was before John. He was
“clothed with a cloud”, had a “rainbow” on his
head, his “face shone like the sun”, and he had “fiery
column like feet”. No doubt this was an awesome sight, and
anyone encountering this “angel” would have been humbled.
God created this “mighty angel”, and He has power and
authority over all the created beings. Knowing that He does, why
would anyone reject His “salvation” plan through His Son Jesus?
Let this be a warning to all who will read and understand – God has
some “mighty angels” to carry out His mission and
directives throughout the entire world.
Next
time we begin a new chapter as John shares how the “mighty
angel”,
“had
in his hand a little book open”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
