As
John the apostle continued to share about the “tribulation” that
was to come upon the earth, he shared concerning the first six seals
Jesus removed from the “scroll” in God's right hand. He began to
write about what happened when Jesus,
“had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the
space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before
God; and to them were given seven trumpets … And the seven angels
which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first,
second, third and fourth angels” blew
their trumpets, and great judgment fell upon the earth. John
continued,
“And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of
heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabitants
of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the
three angels, which are yet to sound!” The
“fifth
angel sounded”
and fearsome “locusts”
were
released from the
“bottomless pit”
to cause havoc upon the earth, and afterward the angel declared,
“One
woe is past; and,
behold, there come two woes more hereafter.” In
chapter nine and verse thirteen John shared what happened when “the
sixth angel sounded” where
we read:
And
the sixth angel sounded,
and
I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is
before God,
The
verse reads, “And
the sixth angel sounded,”
John
began with the words, “and
the sixth angel”
which means “the sixth messenger, envoy and one sent” “sounded”
or “blew or blasted his trumpet”. John heard the “sixth
angel”
blow his trumpet to signal the next level of judgment.
The
verse continues, “
and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is
before God,”
John
added the words, “and
I heard”
which means “and John was endowed with the faculty of hearing,
understanding and perceiving” “a
voice”
or “a sound and tone of uttered words, language and tongue” “from
the four horns”
which means “out of and away from the four points and apexes” “of
the golden altar” or “pertaining to the place where offerings
and incense which stood in the sanctuary or Holy Place” “which
is before”
which means “that is in the presence and in front of” “God”
which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised
of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. John
“heard”
another “voice”
that came from the “four
points or apexes” of the “golden
altar”
before God's throne.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we notice how this
“voice” came from the very presence of God. The “horns”
on the “golden altar” represent the “power and
authority” of God, and when this “sixth angel” blew his
trumpet, the authoritative “voice” made a declaration.
This is the “second woe” promised by the “angel”,
and with God's authority and power behind it, only those who are not
wise shall refuse to have a relationship with God's Son Jesus Christ
to avoid experiencing the declaration initiated by the “trumpet
blast” of this “sixth angel”.
Next
time John
hears the voice before God's throne say, “loose
the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphates”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
