The Red Horse Revelation 6:4

After the worship scene in heaven where “the Lamb” of God received the “scroll” in God's right hand, the beginning of the tribulation upon the earth began and John the apostle wrote, “I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer, and when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see”, and in chapter six and verse four of Revelation John shared how the “there went out another horse that was red” where we read:

And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

The verse reads, And there went out another horse that was red: John began with the words, “and there went out” which means “there arose, came forth and emitted” “another horse” which means “one other horse” “that was red” or “which had the color of fire or a flame”. John saw this second “horse” that was the color of flaming fire.

The verse continues, “and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another:” John added the words, “and power” which means “ability, capability and authority” “was given to him” or “was granted, bestowed and delivered to this one on the red horse” “that sat thereon” or “who was seated, fixed and occupied the red horse” “to take peace” which means “to remove, carry and take away tranquility, harmony and discord” “from the earth” or “separate and apart from the arable land, country, territory and region” “and that they should kill” which means “so the people on the earth would slaughter, butcher, mortally wound and put to death by violence” “one another” or “each other”. John saw how this one on the “red horse” was granted the ability to remove “peace” from the people on the “earth”, and the result was massive killing of one another.

Finally the verse says, “and there was given unto him a great sword.” John finished this verse with the words, “and there was given” or “and there was granted, bestowed, and delivered” “unto him” which refers to “to the one on the red horse” “a great sword” or “a massive, long and splendid straight sword for thrusting”. John saw how the one upon the “red horse” was “granted and delivered” a “massive sword”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we see how this second “fiery red” “horse” had a rider who was given the ability to remove “tranquility and peace” from the earth. He was to incite “war” among the people of the world whereby they would “murder and kill” one another on a grand scale. This is the result of people rejecting God's offer to save them through His Son Jesus, and though God desires to have a relationship with people when they refuse Him, rather than loving one another, they begin to destroy each other. This “red horse” and it's rider demonstrates the “killing and murder” that will be unleashed upon the unbelievers in the world, and woe be to those who have rejected Jesus.

Next time John shares how, “the third seal” and “a black horse”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
