As
John the apostle continued to share about the “tribulation” that
was to come upon the earth, he shared concerning the first six seals
Jesus removed from the “scroll” in God's right hand. He began to
write about what happened when Jesus,
“had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the
space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before
God; and to them were given seven trumpets … And the seven angels
which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first,
second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth angels” blew
their trumpets, and great judgment fell upon the earth. John
continued, “And
I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a
cloud: and a rainbow was
upon his head, and his face was
as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:”
In chapter ten and verse two of Revelation John shared how this
angel, “had
in his hand a little book open” where
we read:
The
verse reads, “And
he had in his hand a little book open:”
John
began with the words “and
he had”
which means “the mighty angel held, owned and possessed” “in
his hand”
or “in the angel's hand” “a
little book” which
means “a small booklet” “open”
or “which was opened up”. John noticed a “small booklet” was
in the
“hand”
of the
“mighty angel”.
The
verse continues, “and
he set his right foot upon the sea, and his
left foot
on the earth,...” John
added the words, “and
he set”
which means “and the mighty angel placed, put down, fixed and
established” “his
right foot”
or “the foot on the angel's right side” “upon
the sea”
which means “on the large body of water like unto a sea in
general”, “and
his left foot”
or “and the foot on the angel's left side” “on
the earth”
which means “upon the arable land, country, territory and region”.
John watched as the “mighty
angel”
placed his “right
foot”
upon the water and his
“left foot”
upon the dry land.
When
we think through John's words in this verse, we notice two more
characteristics concerning this “mighty
angel”.
First, he was holding a “small booklet” in his hand, and second,
he placed his feet upon the “sea”
and “the
earth”.
This preparation was for the “mighty
angel”
to carry out God's intention upon the world. God employs his
“ministering angels” to fulfill His purpose upon the earth, and
when people stand in opposition to God He is able to call upon the
“mighty
angels”
to carry out His plans. God wants people to receive His Son Jesus as
their personal “Savior and Lord”, and when they do, the “angels”
shall
not be against them but rather be employed to come to their aid.
Next
time John shares how this mighty angel,
“cried
with a loud voice, as when
a lion roars”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
