As
John the apostle continued to share about the “tribulation” that
was to come upon the earth, he shared concerning the first six seals
Jesus removed from the “scroll” in God's right hand. He then told
what happened when Jesus,
“had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the
space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before
God; and to them were given seven trumpets … And the seven angels
which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first
angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood,
and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was
burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up. And the second angel
sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast
into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;” In
chapter eight and verse nine John saw “the
creatures which were in the sea...dead, and the...ships destroyed”
where
we read:
And
the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life,
died;
and
the third part of the ships were destroyed.
The
verse reads, “And
the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life,
died;” John
began with the words, “and
the third part”
which means “and one third” “of
the creatures” or
“of the created things” “which
were in the sea” which
means “that lived, dwelt and abided within the massive body of
waters”, “and had life”
or “obtained, held, owned and possessed the vital force which
animates the body and shows itself ”, “died”
which means “were slain and perished”. John saw how one third of
the “living creatures” within the “sea”
were now “lifeless and
dead”.
The
verse goes on to say, “and
the third part of the ships were destroyed.”
John
added the words, “and
the third part”
which means “and one third” “of
the ships”
or “the sailing vessels or boats” “were
destroyed”
which means “were ruined, consumed and corrupted”. John saw how
“one third” of all the “vessels” upon the “sea” were
“ruined and demolished”.
When
we think through John's words in this verse, we see a further effect
of the casting to the earth of the “great mountain burning with
fire”. One third of the “living creatures within the sea”
will die because of this mountain, and one third of the
“ships” will be destroyed as well. Cataclysmic events such
as this “burning mountain” being cast into the sea will be
experienced by people who are living during this “tribulation”
period. God desires to save every person from these things by simply
receiving Jesus Christ His Son as their personal “Savior and Lord”,
and should someone reject His offer, be certain, the “burning
mountain” thrown into the “sea” will not only kill
“one third” of the living creatures within it, but it
shall cause one third of the most destructive shipwrecks the world
has ever seen.
Next
time
John shares what happened when “the
third angel sounded”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

tomorrow…there is more…
