Mountains and Rocks Fall on Us Revelation 6:16

After the worship scene in heaven where “the Lamb” of God received the “scroll” in God's right hand, the beginning of the tribulation to come upon the earth began, and John the apostle saw the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and the sixth seal opened, and he wrote, “there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;”, and in chapter six and verse sixteen of Revelation John shared how the people hiding “said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us” where we read:

And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him
that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

The verse reads, And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, ...John began with the words, “and said” which means “and uttered, declared, proclaimed and requested emphatically” “to the mountains” which means “to the hills or lands which are lifted above the plain“and rocks” or “the crags and large stones”, “fall” which means “descend from a higher place to a lower and be cast down” “on us” or “upon the men who were hiding in caves dens and rocks”. John shared the desperation of these men as they cried out for the “mountains and rocks” to fall down upon them.

The verse toes on to say, “... and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:” John added the words, “and hide us” which means “and conceal so they may not be known” “from the face” or “” “of him” or “of God” “that sits” or “who is seated upon, abides and is occupied” “on the throne” which refers to “upon the chair of state which has a footstool and hence power belonging to Christ”, “and from the wrath” which means “separate and apart from the anger, temper, agitation of the soul, impulse, indignation and violent emotion exhibited in punishment” “of the Lamb” or “pertaining to God's sacrificial Lamb or Jesus”. John told how these men wanted the “mountains and the rocks” to “conceal” them from the “fierce countenance” of God “face” and Jesus' “anger”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we discover the “fear” and despair within these people on the earth. They are so desperate they want the “mountains and rocks” to fall upon them so they can be “hidden” from God's “face” and Jesus' “wrath”. This time of “tribulation” upon the earth shall cause everyone great distress, and God desires for no one to experience it. “Salvation” through belief and trust in Jesus Christ God's Son allows one to escape these things, however, should God's “salvation” be rejected, woe be to those who shall call upon the “mountains and rocks” to hide them.

Next time John shares, “for the great day of his wrath is come” and more, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
