John
the apostle was in heaven when he,
“beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four
beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been
slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits
of God sent forth into all the earth, and he came and took the book
out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne, and when he
had taken the book, the four beasts and four and
twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them
harps, and golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of
saints, and they sung a new song, saying, You are worthy to take the
book, and to open the seals thereof: for you were slain, and have
redeemed us to God by your blood out of every kindred, and tongue,
and people, and nation; And have made us unto our God kings and
priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”,
and in chapter five and verse eleven of Revelation, John shared about
“the
voice of many angels round about the throne”
where
we read:
And
I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne
and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten
thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
The
verse reads, “And
I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne
and the beasts and the elders:”
John
began with the words, “and
I beheld”
which means “and John saw, perceived, noticed, discerned and
discovered”, “and
I heard” which
means “and John was endowed with the faculty of hearing,
understood, learned and perceived” “the
voice” or
“the tone, language and tongue” “of
many angels”
which means “of a large group of messengers and ones who are sent”
“round
about the throne”
or “surrounding the chair of state which has a footstool and hence
power belonging to Christ” “and
the beasts”
which refers to the “four living beings who surround God's throne”
“and the
elders”
or “and the twenty-four presbyters,
judges or rulers”.
After the song of the “twenty-four
elders” was
sung, John saw and heard a huge multitude of God's “angels”
as well as the “four living beings” and the “twenty-four
elders”
surrounding God's throne.
The
verse continues, “and
the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands
of thousands;” John
added the words, “and
the number”
which means “and the indefinite multitude” “of
them”
which refers to “of these angels around God's throne” “was
ten thousand times ten thousand”
or “one hundred millions”, “and
thousands of thousand” which
means “an innumerable multitude with an unlimited number”. John
saw so many angels that he could not count or number them all.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we get a glimpse of the
magnitude of the “angels” who surround God's throne in
heaven. Not only are the “four living beings” there, but also the
“twenty-four elders” which represent the church and this
great multitude of “angels” as well. This scene must have
been awesome to see, and those who receive Jesus Christ as their
personal “Savior and Lord” are promise to be a party of these
things as well. Oh let all who read these words meditate upon this
glorious sight and desire with all their hearts to be a part of God's
eternal heaven some day.
Next
time
John shares how the angels were “saying
with a loud voice, worthy is the Lamb that was slain”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
