John
the apostle
saw
the “Lamb”
of God take the “scroll” which was in His right hand, and when he
did,
and
after watching the “four
beasts, the twenty-four elders and all of creation
worship, he wrote, “And
I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were
the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.”,
and in chapter six and verse two of Revelation John shared how he saw
“a
white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow”
where
we read:
And
I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow;
and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to
conquer.
The
verse reads, “And
I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow;”
John
began with the words, “and I
saw”
which means “and John perceived, noticed, discerned and
discovered”, “and behold”
which
means “and lo and see”, “a
white horse” or
“a horse that was brilliant, dazzling and shining from
whiteness”: “and he that
sat on him”
which means “and the certain one who was seated, abode and dwelt
upon the white horse” “had
a bow”
or “owned, possessed and held a bow like a bow with arrows”.
After Jesus, “the Lamb”,
opened the first seal of the “book”
which
was in God's right hand, John saw someone “seated” on a
“brilliant white horse”
who was holding a “bow”
like a “bow and arrow” in his hand.
The
verse goes on to say, “and
a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to
conquer.” John
added the words, “and
a crown”
which means “a mark of royal or exalted rank such as the prize
given to victors in public games” “was
given”
or “was granted, bestowed, supplied and furnished” “unto
him”
or “to the one seated on the white horse”: “and
he went forth” which
means “and the one on the white horse departed and arose”
“conquering”
or “carrying off victory and winning over all his foes”, “and
to conquer” which
refers to “being carried off to victory and winning over all his
foes”. John saw this one seated on the “brilliant white
horse”
being set free to “be victorious” in battles against his foes.
When
we consider John's words in this verse, we understand when this
“first seal” was unfastened by Jesus, one upon a
“brilliant white horse” was sent into the world to
“conquer” and be victorious over the opponents to God.
This “one seated upon a white horse” was to be victorious
over foes who were the enemies of God, and who rather than accepting
Jesus Christ as their personal “Savior and Lord”, opposed and
rejected Him. God desires to save every person, however, should
someone reject His offer of “salvation” and grace, they shall
know His judgment and tribulation which begins with this “white
horse”.
Next
time
John shares what happened, “when
he had opened the second seal”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
