Swearing by the Creator of All Things Revelation 10:6

As John the apostle continued to share about the “tribulation” that was to come upon the earth, he shared concerning the first six seals Jesus removed from the “scroll” in God's right hand. He began to write about what happened when Jesus, “had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour. And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets … And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. The first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth angels” blew their trumpets, and great judgment fell upon the earth. John continued, “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven.” In chapter ten and verse six of Revelation John saw how the mighty angel, “swore by him that lives for ever and ever” where we read:

And swore by him that lives for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:

The verse reads, “And swore by him that lives for ever and ever,” John began with the words “and swore” which means “and affirmed, promised, threatened and invoked an oath and witness” “by him” or “by God” “that lives” which means “who is active, blessed, endless and immortal” “for ever and ever” or “unto the unbroken age, perpetuity of time and eternity”. John heard the “mighty angel” swear by God who is “eternal”.

The verse goes on to say, “who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:” John added the words, “who created” which means “who make habitable, formed, shaped and fabricated” “heaven” or “the region above the sidereal heavens where the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”, “and the things” which means “and every thing” “that therein are” or “which exists within heaven”, “and the earth” which means “the arable land, country, territory and region”, “and the sea” or “large bodies of water” “and the things” or “and every thing” “that therein are” which refers to “which exists within the sea”, “that there should be time no longer” or “that there should be no more delay”. John

When we consider John's words in this verse, we see how this “mighty angel” with his “hand lifted up” to “heaven” and his loud cry “swore” by the eternal God that there should be no more delay of time. The idea is the time of “delay” had ended, and now the wrath of God was to be fully poured out. God does not delight in bringing “judgment” upon people within the earth, but He is Creator God who made all things which are in “heaven, the earth and the sea”, and when people reject His offer to be in a relationship with Him by way of His Son Jesus, there will be “time no longer” for repentance. May all who read these daunting words take heed before God's “delay of time” has ended.
