Mark wrote how Jesus, “taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow. And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit”, and in chapter four and verse eight of his book, Mark shares how Jesus told how,“other fell on good ground” where we read:
And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased;
and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.
The verse reads, “And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased;” Mark began with the words, “and other fell” or “and other seeds were thrust down and scattered” “on good ground” which means “on beautiful, eminent, choice, surpassing, precious and admirable dirt, arable land and earth”, “and did yield fruit” or “and bestowed, granted, supplied and furnished fruit or origination, effect or result from the seed” “that sprung up” which means “that ascended, rose and bore up” “and increased” or “and augmented, grew and became greater”. Mark shared how Jesus said some of the “seed” that was scattered went into “good soil”, “ascended” and brought forth an abundance of “fruit”.
The verse goes on to say, “and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.” Mark continued with the words “and brought forth” which means “and carried, bore and upheld”, “some thirty” or “a portion of the seed yielded thirty times itself”, “and some sixty” which means “a portion of the seed yielded sixty times itself”, “and some an hundred” or “a portion of the seed yielded a hundred times itself”. Mark shared how Jesus said some of the seed yielded “thirty, sixty and a hundred” times the seeds themselves.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how the “good ground” was the source of the most abundant crop harvested. God allows His “seed” of the “gospel” to go throughout the world, and those who have hearts and minds ready to “receive” it, shall not only grow in their relationship with God, but also shall produce “abundant fruit” through their service to Him. God loves people, and He wants them all to be “good ground”. Those who receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will begin the process for yielding a great harvest of “fruit” for God.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus said, “He that has ears, let him hear”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
