Mark wrote how, “there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet. And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years. And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-seven our of his book, Mark writes how the woman, “heard of Jesus” where we read:
When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
The verse reads, “When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, ...” Mark began with the word, “when” or “at the time and moment” “she had heard” which means “the woman with the issue of blood was given the faculty for hearing, perceiving, discerning and discovering” “of Jesus” or “about Jesus who is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”, “came in the press behind” which means “appeared within the crowd, multitude and throng in the back or after the other people”. Mark shared how the “woman with the issue of blood” “heard” about Jesus and began to “follow along” at the back of the “crowd” who surrounded Him.
The verse goes on to say, “... and touched his garment.” Mark continued with words, “and touched” which means “and adhered to, clung to and grasped”, “his garment” or “Jesus' clothing or apparel”. Mark shared how the “woman” reached out to “grasp” Jesus' clothing.
When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how this “woman” “heard” about Jesus and began to follow along at the back of the crowd surrounding Him. As she pressed through the people, she reached out to “cling” to Jesus' apparel, and regardless of her weakened and sickly state, she was purposed to “touch” Him. God loves people who desire to reach out and touch Him, and those who come to Him in desperation by “faith and trust” in His Son Jesus, shall not only be ministered to by Him, but also inherit “everlasting life” with Him forever.
Next time Mark shares how the woman said, “if I may touch but his clothes”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
