Mark wrote how Jesus asked the scribes, “How can Satan cast out Satan? And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but has an end. No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme”, and in chapter three and verse twenty-nine of his book, Mark shares how Jesus said, “he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost has never forgiveness” where we read:
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost
has never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
The verse reads, “But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost has never forgiveness, ...” Mark began with the word, “but he that shall blaspheme” or “nevertheless, moreover and the person whether male or female will slander, detraction, injurious speech to another's good name, impiousness and reproachful talk” “against the Holy Ghost” or “in opposition to the most holy and pure third person of the triune God who is coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Son” “has never forgiveness” which means “does not and will not ever have their sin sent away, disregarded, remitted and left destitute”. Mark shared how Jesus said no one who “speaks reproachfully and injuriously” against God's “Holy Spirit” will ever be “forgiven” for that sin.
The verse goes on to say, “... but is in danger of eternal damnation:” Mark continued with the words “but is in danger” which means “nevertheless, moreover and is bound, under obligation, subject to, liable, guilty and worthy of punishment” “of eternal damnation” or “pertaining to without ending, never ceasing and everlasting separation, judgment, condemnation and punishment”. Mark shared how Jesus declared the person who “blasphemes the Holy Ghost” is “liable” and “subject to everlasting condemnation”.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see what Jesus said about “blasphemy against the Holy Ghost”. Many have determined themselves eternally damned because they do not know exactly what this means.God's invitation for people to receive His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and He speaks to a person's heart about submitting themselves to Him through His “Holy Ghost or Spirit”. Those who receive Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” have not spoken against and refused the “Holy Spirit”, however, those who “reject and refuse” God's offer have “blasphemed” against Him, and they shall be “eternally judged and condemned” for their decision. “Today is the day of Salvation”, and those who are wise will “yield” to the Holy Spirit's call within their heart and never be eternally condemned and separated from God.
Next time Mark shares the reason Jesus spoke about “blasphemy” because the scribes said, “he has an unclean spirit”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
