Mark wrote how Jesus taught the crowd around Him, “many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow. And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up”, and in chapter four and verse four of his book, Mark shares how Jesus said,“some fell on stony ground” where we read:
And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth;
and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:
The verse reads, “And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth;” Mark began with the words, “and some fell” or “and some of the seed was thrust down” “on stony ground” which means “upon a rocky surface” “where it had not much earth” which means “where the seed did not have a lot of dirt, arable land, ground or country”. Mark shared how Jesus said the second “seeds” were scattered over ground that was “rocky” and did not have much dirt in which it could germinate.
The verse continues, “... and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:” Mark added the words “and immediately” which means “and straightway and forthwith” “it sprang up” or “the seed upon the rocky ground sprouted and shot forth”, “because” which means “since and on account that” “it had no depth of earth” or “the seeds sown upon rocky ground did not have deep enough dirt to grow in”. Mark shared how Jesus said the “seeds” sown upon “rocky ground” “sprouted” quickly because there was not enough depth of earth for it to grow properly.
When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus employed another example of how the “second seeds” were “scattered” upon rocky soil that did not have any depth of dirt. This caused them to “sprout” quickly, and there are many in the “Kingdom of God” who hear God's word and take to it “immediately” like these seeds. God desires people to be in a lasting and strong relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and those who are wise shall allow the “seed” of God's word to penetrate them deeply so they align with His “Salvation” plan.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus said, “when the sun was up, it was scorched”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
