Mark wrote how Jesus said, “All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost has never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation. Because they said, He has an unclean spirit.”, and in chapter three and verse thirty-one of his book, Mark shares how, “there came then his brethren and his mother” where we read:
There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
The verse reads, “There came then his brethren and his mother, ...” Mark began with the words, “there came then” or “at that time and moment appeared and approached” “his brethren” or “Jesus' brothers” “and his mother” which refers to “Jesus' mother who was Mary”. Mark shared how Jesus' family which included His “brothers” and “mother” came to where Jesus was.
The verse goes on to say, “... and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.” Mark continued with the words “and, standing without” which means “firmly placed, set and established outside”, “sent unto him” or “put in and presented themselves to liberate and free Jesus”, “calling him” which means “beckoning, summoning and bidding that Jesus”. Mark shared how Jesus' family was “standing” outside the area where the crowd was pressing against Him.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' family wanted to “save” and “retrieve” Him from the crowd. They believed He needed to be rescued because rather than know Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they only knew Him as their “brother” and “son”. God loves everyone, and He wants them to be in a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. When a person yields their lives to Him, they become part of the “family of God”. This is the way God wants it, and those who are wise will “believe and trust” in Him for who He truly is – The Messiah of God.
Next time Mark shares how the multitude told Jesus, “your mother and your brethren without seek for you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
