Just Touch His Clothes - Mark 5:28

Mark wrote how, “there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet. And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years. And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse. When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment”, and in chapter five and verse twenty-eight our of his book, Mark writes how the woman said, “If I may touch but his clothes” where we read:

For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

The verse reads, “For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, ... Mark began with the words, “for she said” or “because, since and on account that the woman with the issue of blood uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “If I may touch” which means “whether I might adhere, cling to and grasp“but his clothes” which means “even so, also and indeed Jesus' apparel or garments”. Mark shared how the woman with the issue of blood determined within herself to attempt to just “touch” Jesus' clothes.

The verse continues, “... I shall be whole.” Mark added the words, “I shall be whole” which means “the woman would be rescued, saved, sound and made well”. Mark shared how the woman had “faith” that “if” she could just “touch” Jesus' garments, she would be “made well”.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we have to admire the determination and resolve of this “woman”. She decided “if” she could just “touch” Jesus' clothing, she would be “healed”. We recall her desperation and since she exhausted every other effort and expenditure to be made well, she had nothing to lose. God loves people to come to Him when they have “exhausted” every other measure, and as they humble themselves before Him and His Son Jesus, He not only will “save” them from their sins, but also will give them “age abiding life” that lasts for all eternity.

Next time Mark shares, “straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
