He that Has and He that Has Not - Mark 4:25

Mark wrote how Jesus asked His disciples, “Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. And he said unto them, Take heed what you hear: with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given”, and in chapter four and verse twenty-five of his book, Mark shares how Jesus said, “he that has … and he that has not” where we read:

For he that has, to him shall be given: and he that has not,

from him shall be taken even that which he has.

The verse reads, “For he that has, to him shall be given: and he that has not, ...” Mark began with the words, “for he that has” or “because, since and on account that the person whether male or female who holds, owns, possesses and enjoys”, “to him shall be given” which means “to that person will be granted, bestowed, supplied and furnished”: “and he that has not” which means “and the person who does not hold, own, possess or enjoy”. Mark shared how Jesus referred to the person who “possesses” His word and His promise is they shall receive more. Jesus then referred to the person who does not “possess” His word and that person shall have the following occur.

The verse continues, “... from him shall be taken even that which he has.” Mark added the words, “from him” or “separate and apart from the person who does not possess God's word” “shall be taken” which means “will be carried off, moved from it's place and removed” “even that which he has” or “even the part of God's word to which that person has been exposed”. Mark shared how Jesus said the person who does not have the “word of God” will have all exposure to the word taken from him.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how important the word of God is in people's lives. If a person is exposed to God's word, and refuses and rejects it, they shall have even their brief exposure of the word taken from them. God loves people, and His desire is to have them be in a full loving relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. Those who hear the gospel of Jesus Christ should humble themselves, repent of their sins, ask God for forgiveness of their sins and yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. Those who refuse to do so shall have even their opportunity to know Him taken away and woe be to the person to whom that occurs.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus declares, “so is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
