The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, “My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready. The world cannot hate you; but me it hates, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil”, and in chapter seven and verse eight of his book, John shared how Jesus instructs His disciples to, “Go you up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast” where we read:
Go you up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
The verse reads, “Go you up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast;” John began with the words, “Go you up unto this feast” or “you brothers of Jesus ascend to the festival”: “I go not up yet” which means “I, Jesus, am not ascending at this time” “unto this feast” or “to the festival”. John shared how Jesus instructed His brothers to “ascend” to the festival, but He was not going yet.
The verse continues, “for my time is not yet full come.” John added the words, “for my time” which means “because, since and on account that my, Jesus', opportune season and period” “is not yet full come” or “has not at this point and time completely or fully arisen and arrived”. John shared how Jesus told His brothers His “opportune time” had not completely arrived.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus knew His “timing” for every part of His ministry. He was not going to be persuaded by any person, even His brothers, and was on His “Father God's” time. Jesus knew every plan and purpose of His Father to provide “salvation” for the sins of mankind, and when a person submits themselves to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will “timely” forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with Him.
Next time John shares how Jesus, “abode still in Galilee”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
