The apostle John wrote how in the middle of the feast, and He asked the people there, “If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are you angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment”, and in chapter seven and verse twenty-five of his book, John shared how some of the people in Jerusalem ask, “is not this he, whom they seek to kill?” where we read:
Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?
The verse reads, “Then said some of them of Jerusalem, ...” John began with the words, “Then said” or “at that time uttered, declared and proclaimed” “some of them” which means “”a few or a number of the Jewish people” “of Jerusalem” or “belonging to the city of Jerusalem that means set you double peace and is the capital of Palestine”. John shared how “a number” of the Jewish people began to ask the following question.
The verse goes on to say, “... Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?” John continued with the words, “is not this he” which means “does not this man, Jesus, exist as the One”, “whom they seek to kill”” or “that the Jewish religious leaders aim to, desire, crave and require to destroy, allow to perish, extinguish, abolish and inflict mortal death”? John shared how the “Jewish people” who were in “Jerusalem” began to question as to whether Jesus was the “one” the “religious leaders and authorities” were wanting to “eliminate and destroy”.
When we think through John's words in this verse, we see how there was some wondering among the people in Jerusalem about whether Jesus was the person the “religious leaders” wanted dead. Because Jesus had such great influence over the people to whom He ministered and was a threat to them, the “religious leaders” wanted Him out of the way. God sent His Son Jesus to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, but not everyone will receive Him for who He came to be. Those who are wise will yield their lives to Jesus rather than question Him or desire for Him to be “eliminated”, and woe be to those who seek to destroy the only “begotten” Son of God.
Next time John shares how some of the people in Jerusalem say, “he speaks boldly, and they say nothing unto him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
