The apostle John wrote how in the middle of the feast, “Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. And the Jews marveled, saying, How knows this man letters, having never learned? Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself”, and in chapter seven and verse eighteen of his book, John shared how Jesus said, “he that speaks of himself seeks his own glory” where we read:
He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory:
but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
The verse reads, “He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory:” John began with the words, “He that speaks of himself” or “the person whether male or female who utters, declares and proclaims words concerning their own selves” “seeks his own glory” which means “looks for, requires, demands and craves that person's own personal praise, honor, splendor and brightness”. John shared how Jesus said the person to “talks about themselves” “crave” their own “honor, praise, splendor and brightness”.
The verse goes on to say, “but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.” John continued with words, “but he that seeks his glory” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover that person whether male or female looks for, craves, requires and demands the praise, honor, splendor and brightness” “that sent him” or “of the One who dispatched and assigned that person”, “the same is true” which means “that same person is loving and speaking the truth”, “and no unrighteousness” or “and not any injustice, violating of law and justice, iniquity, unjustness and morally wrongfulness” “is in him” which means “is within that person whether male or female”. John shared how Jesus said the person who give “glory and honor” to the One who dispatched them, God, that person speaks the “truth” and there exists no “iniquity and wrongfulness” within them.
When
we think through John's words in this verse, we learn the difference
between the person who “seeks” their own “honor and praise”
and the person who seeks to give “honor and praise” to God. God
gives gifts unto men, and He provided His word, the Holy Scriptures,
and His Son Jesus to prove He desires to have a personal relationship
with every person. God loves people, and He provided His “word”
to show people His “redemption” plan for mankind. Those who
search the scriptures will give glory and honor to God for His word
and find His Son Jesus is His answer to the sin problem that
separated mankind from Him. Let all who read the scriptures give
credit, praise and glory to God Almighty for His word and become
people who “speak the truth” and live in a righteous manner.
