Shall Christ Come Out of Galilee? - John 7:41

The apostle John wrote, “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet”, and in chapter seven and verse forty-one of his book, John shared how some of the people asked, shall Christ come out of Galilee?where we read:

Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?

The verse reads,Others said, This is the Christ.” John began with the words, “Others said” or “some other people both male and female uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “This is the Christ” which means “this man exists as the Messiah and Son of God”. John shared how some other people declared Jesus to be God's “Christ, Messiah and Son”.

The verse goes on to say, But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?” John added the words, “But some said” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover other people uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked”, “Shall Christ” or “will the Messiah and Son of God” “come out of Galilee” which means “arise and appear from Galilee which means circuit and was the name of a region of northern Palestine, bounded on the north by Syria, on the west by Sidon, Tyre, Ptolemais and their territories and the promontory of Carmel, on the south by Samaria and on the east by the Jordan”? John shared how other people declared Jesus to be God's “Messiah”, but still others wondered if God's “Christ” would come from the area of “Galilee”.

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how people had all kinds of different opinions as to who Jesus was. Some thought He was just “the Prophet”, and others thought He was the actual “Christ” of God. This only caused others to question whether the “Messiah” would arise and arrive from the region of “Galilee”. God's desire is for people to believe and trust in His Son Jesus as the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and anyone who yields their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with God. Though people's opinions change about Jesus, He remains the same, and His desire is for all people simply to come to Him.

Next time John shares how some of the people ask, has not the scripture said, that Christ comes of the seed of David?, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
