You Blaspheme - John 10:36

The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do you stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone you not; but for blasphemy; and because that you, being a man, make yourself God. Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, You are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken, and in chapter ten and verse thirty-six of his book John shared how Jesus continued asking, “say you … you blaspheme; because I said, I am the Son of God?" where we read:

Say you of him, whom the Father has sanctified, and sent into the world,

You blaspheme; because I said, I am the Son of God?

The verse reads,Say you of him, whom the Father has sanctified, and sent into the world, ... John began with the words, “say you of him” which means “are you uttering, declaring and proclaiming about him, Jesus”, “whom the Father” or “that the Heavenly Father God” “has sanctified” which means “separated, consecrated and dedicated”, “and sent into the world” or “and dispatched and assigned to the earth and it's inhabitants”. John shared how Jesus continued to question the Jewish people who were going to “stone” him as He referred to how “God His Father” “separated” and assigned Him to the “earth” and it's inhabitants.

The verse goes on to say, ... You blaspheme; because I said, I am the Son of God? John continued with Jesus' words, “You blaspheme” which means “you, Jesus, slander, detract, are impious and employ reproachful speech which is injurious to divine majesty”; “because I said” or “since and on account that I, Jesus, uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “I am the Son of God” which means “I, Jesus, exist as God's Son”? John shared how Jesus continued His question by asking the Jewish people if they thought He “blasphemed” because He claimed to be “God's Son”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus inquired of the “Jewish people” who were to “stone” Him by asking them if they were going to do so even though God the Father” “consecrated and dedicated” Him when He dispatched Him to the earth and because Jesus told them He was “God's Son”. In their minds, the Jewish people determined Jesus to be a violator of the “law of God” because He made Himself “equal” to God. Jesus was “God” who came in the “flesh” (See John 1:14), and His desire was to pay the death penalty for the sins of every person so they may have a personal relationship with Him. Those who are wise will understand, Jesus never “blasphemed” because He was telling the truth, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him will be “saved”.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
