John the apostle wrote how, “a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick. When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby”, and in chapter eleven and verse five of his book John shared how, “ Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus” where we read:
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
The verse reads, “Now Jesus loved Martha, …” John began with the words, “Now Jesus” which means “moreover the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “loved Martha” or “was fond of, well pleased with and felt affection toward Martha whose name means she was rebellious”. John shared how Jesus was very fond of “Martha” who was Lazarus' sister.
The verse continues, “... and her sister, and Lazarus.” John added the words, “and her sister” which means “and Martha's female sibling, Mary”, “and Lazarus” or “and the female sibling of Lazarus' whose name means whom God helps”. John shared how Jesus also “loved” “Martha's sister”, Mary, and “Martha's brother”, Lazarus.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus felt about “Martha, Mary and Lazarus”. He “loved” them, and this sets an example for His care and concern for all people. Let this be clear, Jesus loves every person, and He died for the sins of the whole world. Anyone who puts their faith and trust in Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. As the children's Sunday School song says, “Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong. They are weak, but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so”.
Next time John shares, “when he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two day still”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
