The beloved physician Luke wrote how he, Paul, and others with him were sailing toward Rome, and although Paul warned them not to leave Crete, they left anyway and a storm arose that eventually caused them to be “fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day. And as the shipmen were about to flee out of the ship, when they had let down the boat into the sea, under color as though they would have cast anchors out of the foreship, Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, you cannot be saved. Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off. And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take meat, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that you have tarried and continued fasting, having taken nothing”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse thirty-four of the book of Acts Luke shared how Paul said, “I pray you to take some meat, for this is for your health” where we read:
Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health:
for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.
The verse begins, “Wherefore I pray you to take some meat: for this is for your health:” Luke began with the words, “Wherefore I pray you” which means “therefore, then, consequently and on this account I, Paul, exhort, entreat, implore and desire you, people aboard the ship” “to take some meat” or “to receive a portion of food and rations”: “for this is for your health” which means “because, since and on account that the food exists on behalf of your, people aboard the ship's, salvation, saving and preservation”. Luke shared how “Paul” concluded that since the people aboard the ship had been without food for fourteen days, they should eat because it was important to their physical preservation and salvation.
The verse continues, “for there shall not an hair fall from the head of any of you.” Luke added the words, “for there shall not an hair fall” which means “because, since and on account there will in no way be a physical hair fallen down” “from the head of any of you” or “from the physical head belonging to any of the people aboard the ship”. Luke shared how “Paul” told the men aboard the ship that not even a “hair of their heads” would “fall down”.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul” told the men aboard the ship that they needed to eat to be preserved because they would be so well-kept that not even a “hair on their head” would fall down or be lost. Now that is preservation at it's highest level particularly when we consider the conditions they were in. God loves people, and His desire is to “save” them from eternal separation from Him. When they submit to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life with Him. Those who yield to the instructions of God will be preserved, and anyone submits to His Son Jesus will align with God's purpose and will for all who believe.
Next time Luke shares how Paul, “took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
