In Psalms chapter twenty-two David appealed to Jehovah God saying, “Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round”, and in chapter twenty two and verse thirteen of Psalms David said, “They gaped on me with their mouths” where we read,
They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
The verse begins, “They gaped upon me with their mouths, ...” David began with the words, “They gaped upon me” which means “the strong bulls opened up and set free upon me, David” “with their mouths” or “by the use of their, the strong bulls, orifices in their faces used for eating and speaking”. David said the “strong bulls” that surrounded him opened their “mouths” to speak against him.
The verse continues, “... as a ravening and a roaring lion.” David added the words, “as a ravening” or “like a rending, plucking and tearing ” “and a roaring lion” which means “and a mightily rumbling, moaning lion of the wild”. David wrote how the “strong bulls” that surrounded him used their mouths to speak against him like a rending, tearing and mighty rumbling” lion of the wild.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David described the powerful words that were used against him by his enemies. With boldness they made mighty declarations against David, and they did the same with the Messiah Jesus as they prepared him to be hung on the cross. (See Matthew 26:59-65) Power and might are given to people by Jehovah God, and without Him, they would not be in their positions of authority. What they do with that power will be judged by Jehovah God, and these who came against David and Jesus Christ will in no doubt be held accountable for their words and actions. Jesus endured the powerful ones against Him because He desired to save everyone who would believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”. He died on the cross for the sins of the world and was raised back to life after three days so people who believe in Him could live with Him forever. God loves us, and although people came against His Son Jesus like “ravening and roaring lions”, we will praise Him forever for enduring their words for our benefit.
Next time David says, “I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
