In Psalms chapter twenty-four David said, “Lift up your heads, O you gates; and be you lift up, you everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates; even lift them up, you everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in”, and in chapter twenty four and verse ten of Psalms David asked again, “Who is this King of glory?” where we read,
Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.
The verse begins, “Who is this King of glory?” David began with the words, “Who is” which means “what person is” “this King of glory” or “this Royal ruler and judge with honor, abundance, riches and splendor”? David repeated his question concerning what person was the Royal ruler of who would make entrance when the “gates and everlasting doors” were lifted up.
The verse goes on to say, “The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.” David continued with the words, “The LORD of hosts” or “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God over an army or mass of angels”, “he is the King of glory” which means “he, Jehovah God exists as the Royal ruler and judge with honor, abundance, riches and splendor”. “Selah” or “lift up, exult and pause to meditate upon it”. David repeated the declaration that Jehovah God exists as the “Royal ruler and judge” who possesses honor, abundance, riches and splendor, and everyone who reads these words should meditate upon this idea.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David presented the question about who the “King of glory” is for a second time. He answered, Jehovah God. God is the ruler, judge and overseer of all the earth. He created the universe, the world and the people within it, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with every one of them. There was a problem called sin that separated people from God which means to “miss the mark”, and all people have sinned and are therefore unable to have a personal relationship with this Holy God. (See Romans 3:10, 23) God sent His Son Jesus to die for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us access to Him and give us everlasting life. “The LORD of hosts” is the Divine ruler and judge of the universe, and when we surrender to Him, we make Him ruler and judge over us as well.
Next time we begin a new chapter and see David say, “Unto you, O LORD, do I lift up my soul”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
