In Psalms chapter twenty-two David speaking of Jehovah God wrote, “Our fathers trusted in you: they trusted, and you did deliver them. They cried unto you, and were delivered: they trusted in you, and were not confounded. But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people”, and in chapter twenty two and verse seven of Psalms David said, “all they that see me laugh me to scorn” where we read,
All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
The verse begins, “All they that see me laugh me to scorn:” David began with the words, “All they that see me” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone who observes, beholds and looks upon me, David” “laugh me to scorn” or “mock, deride and ridicule me, David, to stammering derision”. David said all the people who observe him mock, deride and ridicule him.
The verse continues, “they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, ...” David added the words, “they shoot out the lip” or “the people who observe David set free, open and burst through with their language, speech and words”, “they shake the head” which means “the people who observe David quiver, totter, reel, stagger and wave their physical heads back and forth”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the following words. David wrote how the people who observed him burst out with language and words against him while they wagged their heads back and forth in a mocking manner.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the people who looked upon David's life laughed at and mocked him with their words, and they shook their heads back and forth to make fun of him. This is exactly what happened to Jesus as He hung on the cross, (See Matthew 27:29, 39; Mark 15:29; Luke 23:35-39), as the people before Him mocked Him, cast their words at Him and taunted him with their heads wagging back and forth demonstratively as they derided Him. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the world, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. David wrote this about himself, but his words were prophetic concerning the Messiah Jesus, and we are wise to give Jehovah God honor and glory for providing not only this foretelling, but also for giving us His Son Jesus to endure these things and provide us with His salvation.
Next time David says, “He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
