In Psalms chapter twenty-five David said, “All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies”, and in chapter twenty five and verse eleven of Psalms David said, “For your name's sake, O LORD, pardon my iniquity” where we read,
For your name's sake, O LORD, pardon my iniquity; for it is great.
The verse begins, “For your name's sake, O LORD, ...” David began with the words, “For your name's sake” which means “on behalf, for the purpose and intent of your, Jehovah God's, reputation, fame and glory”, “O LORD” or “O Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David appealed to Jehovah God by His own reputation, fame and glory to do the following.
The verse continues, “... pardon my iniquity; for it is great.” David added the words, “pardon my iniquity” or “forgive and spare my, David's, perversity, depravity, guilt and consequence of or punishment for faults and mischief”; “for it is great” which means “because, since and on account that it, David's iniquity, exists as abounding, numerous and abundant”. David desired for Jehovah God to “forgive and spare” him from His abounding and abundant perversity and faults.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David appealed to Jehovah God with His famous reputation and glory to forgive him of his numerous errors and wrongs. David knew he violated God's covenant and witness in a multitude of ways, and the only One who could forgive Him would be Jehovah God. God knows we have sinned, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross to pay the penalty for those sins. Because Jesus' body was broken and His blood was spilled, when we humble ourselves and ask Him to forgive us, He will. God made His “pardon” available to everyone, and anyone who comes to His Son Jesus will receive it regardless of how numerous and great those sins may be.
Next time David asks, “What man is he that fears the LORD?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
