Lift Up Your Heads, O You Gates - Psalms 24:9

In Psalms chapter twenty-four David said, “Lift up your heads, O you gates; and be you lift up, you everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle”, and in chapter twenty four and verse nine of Psalms David said, “Lift up your heads, O you gates” where we read,

Lift up your heads, O you gates;

even lift them up, you everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

The verse begins, Lift up your heads, O you gates;” David began with the words, “Lift up your heads” which means “bear up, carry, support and sustain your summits, upper parts, heights and fronts”, “O you gates” or “O you places of entrance and openings”. David repeated the idea of the “entrances and openings” to be sustained for the following reason.

The verse continues,even lift them up, you everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.” David added the words, “even lift them up” or “indeed bear up, carry, support and sustain your summits, upper parts, heights and fronts”, “you everlasting doors” which means “you forever, continuous and perpetual openings, doorways and entrances”; “and the King of glory” or “and the Royal ruler and judge with honor, abundance, riches and reverence” “shall come in” which means “will enter”. David repeated the idea of the “forever and continuous” openings and doorways being sustained because “the Royal ruler” would make an entry when they are open.

When we consider the words in this verse, we realize how important it was to David for the entryways to be opened for the “King of glory”. He told us the “King of glory” is “the LORD strong and mighty”, and anyone who opens up their heart to Him provides access to Him as well. Jesus said, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture” (See John 10:8), and when we submit our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and continue with us by His Holy Spirit every day of our lives. God loves us, and like this city with “gates and doors” of which David wrote, when we “lift” up our lives to Him, He will come in and dwell with us throughout eternity. (See Revelation 3:20)

Next time David asks again, “Who is this King of glory?, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
