In Psalms chapter twenty-two David appealed to Jehovah God saying, “Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help”, and in chapter twenty two and verse twelve of Psalms David said, “Many bulls have compassed me” where we read,
Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
The verse begins, “Many bulls have compassed me:” David began with the words, “Many bulls” which means “a great number, numerous and abundant bullocks breaking forth in wild strength” “have compassed me” or “have enclosed, encompassed and surrounded me, David”. David referred to the great number of mighty “bulls” or powerful people who surrounded him.
The verse goes on to say, “strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.” David continued with the words, “strong bulls” or “mighty, valiant and stout-hearted bullocks” “of Bashan” which means “belonging to Bashan whose name means fruitful and was a district east of the Jordan known for its fertility which was given to the half-tribe of Manasseh” “have beset me round” or “have encircled and surrounded me, David”. David wrote how hostile and mighty “bulls” or powerful people surrounded him as well.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn from David about the powerful people who surrounded him while he endured his troubles. In other words, mighty enemies were all around him. Jesus experienced this as He hung upon the cross because powerful religious leaders stood before Him and questioned Him mockingly as He was dying. (See Matthew 27:41-43) This is another fulfilled prophesy by the Messiah Jesus as He gave His life for the sins of the world. Because He endured this mocking, suffering and dying, anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Jesus rose from the dead so we may live with Him forever, and we shall praise Him for all eternity for giving His life and enduring the numerous “strong bulls” on our behalf.
Next time David says, “They gaped on me with their mouths”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
