Ekron with Her Towns and Villages - Joshua 15:45

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “this is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families” which included among others fourteen cities with their villages: Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdalgad, and Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel, Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon, and Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Kithlish, and Gederoth, Bethdagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages: Libnah, and Ether, and Ashan, and Jiphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib, and Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages:”, and in chapter fifteen and verse forty-five of Joshua we learn about, “Ekron, with her towns and her villages:” where we read,

Ekron, with her towns and her villages:

The verse reads, Ekron, with her towns … Joshua or the writer began with the word, “Ekron" whose name means “emigration or torn up by the roots” and was “the most northerly of the five principal cities of the Philistines; located in the lowlands of Judah and later given to Dan”, “with her towns” which means “accompanied by her, Ekron’s, settled abodes ”. Joshua or the writer said “Ekron” along with the company of her settled abodes were also given to the “tribe of Judah”.

The verse goes on to say, … and her villages:Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and her” which means “and her, Ekron’s” “villages” or “settlements, hamlets and towns” Joshua or the writer shared how the settlements surrounding “Ekron” were granted to the people of “Judah”

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover another place that was allotted to the “tribe of Judah” within the promise land. “Ekron” accompanied by “her” settled abodes and hamlets was also granted to “Judah” and were to be used by their people to raise their families with the acknowledgment of Jehovah God. God gives all of us our places to live, and regardless of where that is, He desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who came into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind and to be raised from the dead after three days. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with the power of His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and help us live, wherever we are, in a manner that give testimony of Him and His wonderful plan of salvation. (See John 16:13; Acts 1:8 Colossians 1:12)

Next time Joshua or the writer shares about, “from Ekron even unto the sea”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
