Ambassadors for Christ 2 Corinthians 5:20

Paul the apostle told the Corinthian church members, “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them” and he added, “and has committed unto us the word of reconciliation”. In chapter five and verse twenty of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church members, “we are ambassadors for Christ where we read:

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us:
we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

The verse begins, “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us:” Paul began with the words, “now then” which means “therefore, accordingly, consequently and these things being so” “we are ambassadors” or “Paul and his companions were seniors and representatives” “for Christ” which refers to “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”, “as though God” or “as or like unto the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “did beseech you” which means “called to one's side, begged, admonished, exhorted and intreated” “by us” or “though Paul and his companions”. Paul considered he and his companions as “representatives” for Jesus which was like God Himself “exhorting and intreating” the church members.

The verse continues, “we pray you in Christ's stead, be you reconciled to God. Paul added the words, “we pray you” which means “Paul and his companions wanted, desired, asked and begged the church members” “in Christ's stead” or “within or on the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God's behalf, sake and regard” “be you reconciled” which means “be changed, exchanged and receive favor” “to God” or “to the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Paul exhorted the church members to be “changed or exchanged” toward God.

When we consider these words of Paul, we see the position which he and his companions held before God. They were “God's ambassadors” or “representatives” in this world, and their message was God's and therefore, they could call and “exhort” the church members to be “changed” toward God. Jesus desires to have a relationship with every person, and when an “ambassador” for Jesus relays His message, those who are wise shall not only listen to it, but also surrender their lives and obey.

Next time we finish this chapter as Paul tells the church members how God, “has made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
