The Lord is that Spirit 2 Corinthians 3:17

Paul the apostle told the church members in Corinth concerning, “when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away”, and in chapter three and verse seventeen of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church members, “the vail shall be taken away”, where we read:

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

The verse begins, “Now the Lord is that Spirit: ” Paul began with the word, “now” which means “moreover and” “the Lord” which refers to “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”“is that Spirit” which means “is third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Son”. Paul affirmed that “God the Messiah” is the Holy Spirit of whom he wrote.

The verse goes on to say, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Paul continued with the words, “and where” or “at which place and whither” “the Spirit” which refers to “the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal and coeternal with the Father and the Son” “of the Lord is” which means “of he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”, “there is liberty” or “in that place and thither exists license and ability to do as one pleases”. Paul declared where God's Spirit exists, there is “freedom and license” .

When we consider these words of Paul, we see how the presence of God creates an environment of true “liberty”. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus is able to “liberate” people from their “sins”, and “unveil” their “minds and hearts” to understand the “gospel” or “good news” of God. When a person receives Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, He provides “freedom” to see His word even as God desires. May all who read these words submit themselves to Jesus be welcomed to “liberty” like they have never known before.

Next time Paul shares with the church members how, “we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
