What Concord has Christ with Belial 2 Corinthians 6:15

Paul the apostle shared with the church members in Corinth, “ Be you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers”, and he questioned, “for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion has light with darkness?” In chapter six and verse fifteen of Second Corinthians, Paul asked the church members, “what concord has Christ with Belialor the “believer with an infidel” where we read:

And what concord has Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believes with an infidel?

The verse begins, “And what concord has Christ with Belial?” Paul began with the words, “and what concord” which means “what kind of agreement or accordance” “has Christ” which refers to “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God” “with Belial” which means “worthless or wicked and is a name of Satan”. Paul questioned what kind of “agreement or accordance” Jesus “Christ” had with “Satan”.

The verse goes on to say, “or what part has he that believes with an infidel? Paul added the words, “or what part” which means “what distinction, assigned portion or share” “has he that believes” which refers to “does the person who shows themselves faithful in the transaction of business, execution of commands or discharge of official duties” “with an infidel” or “alongside the unfaithful, faithless, not to be trusted, perfidious and incredulous person”? Paul questioned what “association, portion or share” does a person who “believes” have with a person who does not.

When we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see the extreme distance he demonstrates with “Christ and Belial” and the “believers versus the unbeliever. Through these examples he maintains his idea that Christians are not to be “unequally yoked together with unbelievers”, and “Christ” and “Satan” are diametrically opposed to one another, and the “believer” and the “unbeliever” are opposites as well. The Christian is not to enter into a “committed and binding” relationship with non-Christians, and although this does not prevent interaction with them, Paul does prohibit “connected contracted relationships” with them such as marriage or business. The Lord Jesus desires the best for His church, and those who belong to Him are wise not only to hear these words of Paul, but to take heed to them very carefully.

Next time Paul asks the church members, “what agreement has the temple of God with idols?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
