Walking by Faith 2 Corinthians 5:7

Paul continued to share with the church members in Corinth concerning the “heavenly body” as he wrote, we are always confident, knowing that, while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:”, and in chapter five and verse seven of Second Corinthians, Paul told the church members in what he and his companions, “we walk by faith”, where we read:

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

The verse begins, “For we walk by faith, ... ” Paul began with the word, “for” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “we walk” or “Paul and his companions make their progress, make due use of opportunities, regulate and conduct themselves”, “by faith” which means “through and according to the conviction that God exists and is the creator and ruler of all things, the provider and bestower of eternal salvation through Christ”. Paul and his companions “conducted” themselves according to the “conviction” that God provides salvation through Jesus Christ.

The verse goes on to say, “...not by sight Paul added the word, “not” which means “in no way” “by sight” which refers to “the external, outward appearance of form, shape or kind”. Paul and his companions did not manage their lives by what they could physically see.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how he and his companions managed themselves in the world. Though they experienced suffering and the threat of death continually, they knew by “faith” there was a “heavenly body” awaiting them when they died. They lived “by faith” in Jesus Christ and His promise to provide for them “everlasting life”. This is the way Jesus desires for everyone to live, and when we “walk by faith” and not only by what we see, we have put ourselves in a position to please God. “For without faith it is impossible to please Him” (James 11:6a)

Next time Paul tells the church members how he and his companions are, “willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
