The Blinding God of this World 2 Corinthians 4:4

Paul the apostle told the church members, “if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost”, and in chapter four and verse four of Second Corinthians, Paul shares with the church members concerning those who do not believe in Jesus and how, “the god of this world has blinded the minds of them”, where we read:

In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The verse begins, “In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not,...” Paul began with the words, “in whom” which refers to “those who are blinded” “the god” or “the general name of deities or divinities”“of this world” which means “of the present unbroken age, universe and period of time” “has blinded” or “made blind and darkened the mind” “the minds” which means “the mental perceptions, thoughts or purposes” “of them” which refers to “the people” “which believe not” which means “who are unfaithful, faithless, incredulous and without trust”. Paul blamed “the god of this world” with the reason “unbelievers” were “blind” to the gospel.

The verse goes on to say, ...lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. Paul continued with the word, “lest” which means “therefore, with intent and purpose until” “the light” or “the lamp, torch and brightness” “of the glorious gospel” which refers to “the opinion, judgment, view, praise, honor, splendor and brightness of the good news” “of Christ” or “the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”, “who is the image” or “who is the likeness and figure” “of God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “should shine” or “should beam, irradiate and be bright” “unto them” which refers to the “blind unbelievers”. Paul shared how people with “blinded minds” were not able to engage or enjoy the “splendor filled good news” of “Christ” Jesus who is the “image and figure” of God Himself.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how Satan, “the god of this world”, “blinds” people to the “gospel” of Jesus Christ. Spiritual “blindness” keeps them from receiving the “good news” or “glad tidings” of Almighty God, and if we ever wonder why some people do not believe and never receive Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, it is because the “god of this world” has prevented them from beholding the “light of the glorious gospel”.

Next time Paul tells the church members, “we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus” so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
