If God Be for Us, Who Can Be Against Us? Romans 8:31

Paul the apostle told the people in Rome, whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified”, and in chapter eight and verse thirty-one of Romans, Paul asked his readers, “what shall we say to these things?” where we read:

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

The verse begins, What shall we then say to these things?Paul began with the words, “what shall we then” which means “what can Paul, his companions and his believing readers therefore and wherefore” “say” or “utter, proclaim and declare” “to these things” which means “to the fact that God predestines, calls, justifies and glorifies”? Paul questioned his readers concerning all the benefits God has afforded to those who “love” Him.

The verse continues, If God be for us, who can be against us?Paul continued with the words, “if God or “whether the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “be for us” which means “is in behalf of, for the sake of, over and beyond to Paul, his companions and he believing readers”, “who can be” which means “what person is able and capable to be” “against us” or “resistant and in opposition to Paul, his companions and his believing readers”. Paul asked who could ever be in opposition to believers when they have God with them.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how amazed he is at God's provision for those who “love” Him. This brought Paul to rhetorically ask “who could be against” believers when God is with them? There are huge advantages in the world when Jesus is alongside, and whenever a person places their “faith and trust” in Him, they receive those blessing and the strength of God's care. No one can defeat God, and when He is with believers, there is no need to worry at all.

Next time Paul tells his readers about, “He that spared not his own son”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
