The Elder Shall Serve the Younger Romans 9:12

Paul the apostle parenthetically told the people in Rome concerning Rebecca's sons, “(For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calls;), and he added, “It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.” In chapter nine and verse twelve of Romans, Paul told his readers, “the elder shall serve the younger” where we read:

It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

The verse begins, It was said unto her, ...Paul began with the words, “it was said” which means “it was pour forth, uttered, spoken and declared” “unto her” or “toward Rebecca”. Paul shared how “Rebecca” was told the following message.

The verse continues, ... The elder shall serve the younger.Paul added the words, “the elder which means “the greater, larger, stronger and older in age” “shall serve” which means “will be a slave to, obey and submit to” “the younger” or “the less in rank, excellence and age”. Paul shared how the promise to Rebecca was that her “younger child” would rule over her “older child”.

When we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see how God knew in advance the “ranking” of two children, Jacob and Esau, which were in Rebecca's womb. Though they had not been born, God knew Esau would submit to Jacob. This divine foreknowledge belongs to God Almighty who knows all things from the beginning, and this is why it is so important for people to realize the eternal value of having a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. God knows everyone, and He offers everyone a plan of salvation through His Son. If a person will submit their lives to Jesus Christ, repent of their sins and follow Him, they shall be saved. It they will not submit and obey, they shall not. Oh that everyone reading these words would come to know Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”.

Next time we see Paul tell his readers, “Jacob have I love, but Esau have I hated”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
