The Gentiles Glorifying God for Mercy Romans 15:9

Paul the apostle told the believers in Rome, “I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers”, and in chapter fifteen and verse nine of Romans, Paul added to his thought as he told the believers, “and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy” where we read:

And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written,
For this cause I will confess to you among the Gentiles, and sing unto your name.

The verse begins, “And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, ...” Paul began with the words, “and that the Gentiles” which means “and so the company, troop and multitude of individuals who are from nations and people groups who are not Jews” “might glorify” which means “would think, suppose, be of opinion, praise, extol, magnify, honor and celebrate” “God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “for his mercy” or “because of God's kindness, goodwill, clemency and compassion”; “as it is written” which means “like the way it is delineated on a tablet, parchment, paper or other material”. Paul referred to how the “Gentiles” were also to be included in “glorifying God” for His “kindness, clemency and compassion”.

The verse goes on to say, “... For this cause I will confess to you among the Gentiles, and sing unto your name.Paul continued with the word, “for” which means “because of and since” “this cause” or “these grounds and reason by which something is or is not done” “I will confess” which means “Paul would profess, acknowledge openly, honor, celebrate and engage joyfully” “to you” or “toward the believers in Rome” “among the Gentiles” which refers to “by and with the companies, troops and multitudes of individuals who are from nations and people groups who are not Jews”, “and sing” or “cause their voices to vibrate in music such as a hymn to celebrate the praises of God in song” “unto your name” which means “toward God's thoughts, feelings and that which is aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering”. Paul purposed to “profess” to the “Jews” concerning God's mercy toward the “Gentiles” which would make them “sing in celebration” to Him.

When we think through these words of Paul, we see how he included “the Gentiles” in God's “mercy”. Second Samuel chapter twenty-two and verse fifty says, Therefore I will give thanks unto you, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto your name”, and Psalms chapter eighteen and verse forty-nine says, “Therefore will I give thanks unto you, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto your name.” God desired for all people to receive His “mercy” through Jesus Christ His Son, and that is why He sent Jesus to die for the “sins” of the whole world. Every person, whether Jew or Gentile, may accept Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and those who are wise shall not only “receive” God's Son, but also “sing” unto the Lord “praise” to His Holy name.

Next time Paul tells the believers in Rome about another scripture that says, “rejoice, you Gentiles”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
