Jasper, Sardine and an Emerald Rainbow Revelation 4:3

John the apostle saw “a door was open in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up here, and I will show you things which must be hereafter”, and he added, “And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.” In chapter four and verse three of Revelation John saw “a jasper and a sardine stone, and there was a rainbow round about the throne” where we read:

And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone:
and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.

The verse reads, And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone:John began with the words, “and he that sat” which means “and the One who was seated, fixed and occupied” “was to look upon” or “was to see, had an appearance in visible form” “like a jasper” which means “was as a precious stone of various colors because some are purple, others blue, others green and others the color of brass” “and a sardine stone” which means “a precious stone of which there are two types, the former is called a carnelian (because it is flesh colored) and the latter a sard which is yellow or brownish-red variety of chalcedony”. John looked upon the throne of God and saw Him as the jewels of “jasper” and “sardine”.

The verse continues, “and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.” John added the words, ““and, there was a rainbow” which means “an iris curved bow” “round about the throne” which means “from all sides and all around the chair of state having a footstool which was assigned to kings and therefore showing kingly power or royalty”, “in sight” or “in appearance and visible form” “like unto an emerald” or “even as, similar to and resembling the mineral beryl colored green gem or jewel”. John saw a beautiful “emerald green rainbow” all about this “throne” upon which God was “seated” .

When we consider John's words in this verse, we imagine the glorious sight he enjoyed as he looked upon the throne of God. “Jasper, Sardine and Emerald” colors were about the “throne”, and the splendor and brilliance of them must have transfixed and stunned John's mind. This glorious sight is a preview for people who have put their faith and trust in God's Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and Jesus promised to “prepare a place” for all who receive Him. May the glory of this wonderful sight given to John be an inspiration to all who consider His words, and should a person not know Jesus as “Lord”, let them receive Him today.

Next time we see that John saw, “round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
