Who is Worthy to Open the Book? Revelation 5:2

John the apostle saw “four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that lives for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne saying, You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for you have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were created.” John also, “saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book
written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals”, and in chapter five and verse two of Revelation John saw, “a strong angel” asking “who is worthy to open the book” where we read:

And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice,
Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

The verse reads, And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ...John began with the words, “and I saw” which means “and John perceived, noticed, discerned and observed” “a strong angel” which refers to “a mighty, forcible and firm messenger, envoy and one who was sent” “proclaiming” or “heralding, publishing and declaring openly” “with a loud voice” which means “with a great and abundant sound of uttered words, language and tongue”. John saw a “powerful messenger” of God making a “declaration” with a “blaring sound of words”.

The verse goes on to say, “... Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?” John continued with the words, “who is worthy” which means “what person whether male or female is befitting, congruous and of merit and value” “to open” which means “to unfasten” “the book” or “the scroll within God's right hand”, “and to loose” which means “to undo, dissolve, unbind or break up” “the seals” or “the signet seals“thereof” which means “which are on the scroll”?. John heard the “angel” ask who was “of merit” to “break open” the “signet seals” of the “scroll” within God's right hand .

When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we see how this was an open invitation for anyone who was “worthy” to open the seals to this “book”. There was one requirement – to be “worthy” to do so. No one but Jesus is “worthy” to open this “scroll” as it is more than likely the “Title Deed” to the earth which was bought back from Satan when He paid the price for the sins of the world on the cross. Adam forfeited this deed when he sinned in the garden of Eden, and when Jesus died without sin, He “redeemed” not only the earth but also every person who puts their faith and trust in Him as “Savior and Lord”. See Psalm 24:1 and Genesis 1:26) We shall discover more about this “Title deed” “scroll” in the verses ahead, but for now, we may know the Lord Jesus is the rightful and “worthy” one to possess and open it.

Next time John shares how, “no man … was able to open the book”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
